Chamber Membership
Since 1920, the Nacogdoches County Chamber has existed to serve our community and to create an environment where business can succeed. How do we do this? * We provide community information to thousands of individuals across the country" helping people who want to know about Nacogdoches, and introducing our business members in the process. Our Guide to Nacogdoches includes all our members, displayed by business category and alphabetically. * We list each Chamber member in a searchable database on our website: www.nacogdoches.org, where each member can have a direct link to their own website and e-mail address for free! * We sponsor the NOBLE Scholars and Great Expectations programs, where business volunteers encourage junior high students to take a more challenging curriculum in math and science. The result: better educated, more valuable future employees for Nacogdoches businesses. The program recognizes 350+ NOBLE Scholars in their senior year, and provides twenty $1,000 scholarships to Stephen F. Austin State University. * We hold 30 to 75 ribbon cuttings and ground-breakings annually for new and expanding businesses in our community. * We provided low-cost seminars such as Business Boot Camp, A Passion for Service, Social Media, and the QuickBooks series offered by Axley & Rode, CPAs. These workshops assist business people in starting and maintaining successful ventures. * We create ten Alive After Five mixers each year to spotlight our hosts and help attendees get a chance to pick up new business. * We produce Nacogdoches SFA Days in Austin and the Lone Star Legislative Summit. * We offer members the opportunity to be a destination on the SFA Chamber Connection Discover Nacogdoches Map, attracting the attention of thousands of SFA Students. * We produce the Business Digest - a monthly full-page information service in the Daily Sentinel, featuring the Chamber Calendar of Events, spotlighting major industries and identifying local economic trends. * We serve hundreds of walk-in visitors and newcomers to our facility, providing a friendly front door to the businesses, attractions and educational facilities of Nacogdoches. Great Expectations is a one-hour presentation delivered by a Chamber volunteer in every eighth grade classroom in Nacogdoches County public schools (over 800 students) in the spring months. The volunteer uses a dynamic, projected PowerPoint presentation and real-life examples to encourage students to choose the N.O.B.L.E. Scholar program curriculum in high school. Motivating students to aim for higher grades and honors courses and completing a community service project in high school will benefit the futures of the students and our community. There are 30-40 volunteers that participate in this program.
